Thoughts on this common Morgan (21) better Obv. pic.added

looking for some opinions on this Morgan thinking about purchasing it, I already have a couple of them but this is by far the nicest one in terms of strike and cleaner fields.

Possible but it seems to have some nice luster. Usually a dipped would be a little flat looking I think.

That coin appears to have really nice luster going by the scans provided.I sure wouldn't count on it being as clean as it looks though.A scanned image hides alot of things, particularly when they're that small. You could get lucky and get a GEM as it appears, but that coin could just as easily be a low MS coin.

The coin does look like it could be very nice, but the pictures are too fuzzy to really know if it has any distracting marks. Considering how common these are, I would wait to buy one until I was very sure that I was getting a gem......

  • Not cleaned in my opinion, I have one just like that.

can of worms alert image :

for these types of threads where someone asks for an opinion of a grade on a raw coin, how come there usually seems to be critics that suggest cleaning/dipping for unscathed, untouched mint state coins. Even with the lo-res images, this coin sure looks pure to me. However, it's too difficult to give a grade from the sheldon scale (depends on presence and volume of contact marks). Maybe I'm off base, but do dipped coins look as frosty as the images eric provided?

  • Yes, it is tough to grade this one, especially since the pic is through a holder and is far away and/or non-macro. I still say she may be lightly cleaned and MS63, IMHO. However, a close-up pic without the holder may help. This is an opinion from a guy who has an entire set of Morgans (97 coins).

judging by those pics, looks like you have a solid 64. wouldn't be too concerned about harsh cleaning/ over dipping as there are thousands and thousands....bags and bags.....of mint state 21P's available.
