I probably wrote it around 7th grade or so, but I thought it was kinda interesting

Irrelevant

The youth stand in crowded groups
Speaking of things that have no reason
Bringing up comments
That have no purpose for being said
Making up their verbal defense
By talking of irrelevant things that don’t pertain to the subject
They approach their classrooms
Where they would be filled with knowledge
And they walk in laughing at things
That had no need to be said
They sit down
And block out the teacher’s words
Instead they pass notes
About things that they would consider important
And then a test comes
And they don’t write a thing
And they do this throughout their teen years
And graduating day comes
And they are only twenty-four
No recognition
No extra certificates
Only their heads ducked down in their chairs
They think things will change
And now they have a job
Working at a gas station down the street
And graveyard at the Triple-J Friday and Sunday night
They make a living on their change
And don’t change their living
And the day approaches
As they sit in their coffin
An eulogy is read
“They would’ve had something
They would’ve had a lot
It could’ve been better
Better a lot
But as they sat around in their groups
Talking of nothing real
Their life went quickly
And so has their soul
They fell for irrelevance
And everyone knows
They would’ve had something
They would’ve had a lot
It could’ve been better
Better a lot”
