If the Dalles Mint had opened what mintmark?

If the Dalles Mint in Oregon had opened on schedule in the 1860's what mint mark would it have used?

I would think they would've been the next "D" mint since Denver became "D" in 1906.

Locals are pretty adamant about calling it The Dalles. They might have used T or TD.

Considering Dahlonega shut down after 1861, I would think the "D" would be the most logical answer. The whole Denver thing isn't an issue...that mint didn't open until years after Dalles was to open.

There was an article in The Numismatist back in the 1980's (I do not have the citation with me). Another article I know of was in Numismatic Scrapbook in April 1952 (p. 319).

Yep, the mint was authorizd, funds appropriated, the building was built. I don't think the equipment was ever installed. Then the whole plan was scrapped.
