Shipping to the U.K...reliable, insurance, should I do it?

Someone from the UK wants to purchase a coin from me. Paypal seems to be their preference.

Pro's?

Con's?

Who has had more experience shipping over there.

I've shipped to different countries, but this would be my maiden voyage to the UK. I know registered mail insurance limits are $47 on most international mailings, so I'm hesitant to allow a Paypal payment which could be potentially "chargedback" if the item somehow doesn't make it to it's proper destination.

AMEX travelers cheques a better payment option?

Darin, I've shipped things a few times and have never had a problem. You might want to ask on the darkside as well.

I've never shipped to the UK but I've received coins from there without any problem.

Yeah, just send it airmail it should be fine. I have sent a number of proof sets back and they were OK. I think you can get insurance and priority services but I just go for airmail.

I've shipped many coins to the UK without a problem. Their mail system is very secure. Unless you are talking an expensive coin, I would just ship it regular mail. You can buy the small Global Priority flat rate mailers, the cost to ship with them is $5. On all of these that I have sent to the UK, they have been delivered in two or three business days.

Having spent 3 years, 1 week and 1 day with the USAF stationed in England I can say the following, English postal workers are more honest then ours. Just be sure to fill out that little green form correctly.

Wow, this one was buried for over a month, and mysteriously reappeared......the coin went to England via Registered mail and landed safely for a smooth transaction.

Perhaps you should have "Self insured" it.
