1950 D Nickel-----? for you Nickel Fans

My Uncle was telling me to buy 1950 D nickels....He use to be a Collector until all of his coins were stollen back about 25 years ago....made him sick as he had been a collector since he was about 25...he is now 73...I was wondering what makes this coin so collectable and why did he specify the 1950 D?

  • There were 2.6 million minted, which is the lowest mintage for a circulation strike
Jefferson nickel. But, because of this low mintage, most were grabbed up early
on by collectors, dealers and speculators so there is an abundance of uncirculated
examples - to the point where it's difficult to find one that's worn.

PCGS has graded 155 examples MS66FS, with only two grading MS67FS. There
undoubtedly will be more made, but this issue has been worth slabbing for some
    time for gem+ pieces.

Here's mine (also my icon coin), which obviously spent quite some time in an album:
