Check out the newest addition to my Angels collection

As many of you know, I collect only LA/California/Anaheim Angels-related items. This one isn't a card, but still a fun, pretty rare item. It's a coloring book from the early 1960s (not sure of the year, because there's no copyright info, but it's likely '62 or '63). It features caricatures of 21 players, plus the manager, Bill Rigney, along with a little funny blurb about each person. Some of the jokes are pretty mean-spirited, like this one about Felix Torres:

Here's a link to scans of all the pages. Enjoy!

    JASON - Neat item!
With items like this that have no copyright date, you have to do some detective work.
Go to a baseball encyclopedia or baseballreference.com, and write the years that all
21 played w/ the Angels, soon you'll have the common denominator of the 1 year that all played.
Or If 1 player only played w/ them in say '62, you will have your answer...jay
  • Jay--glad you liked it! The reason I said '62 or '63 is that Bob Sadowski was the only one who wasn't with the Angels for both years. He was acquired late in '62 (after the season), though, so this book could have theoretically been produced at the end of the year. It's most likely '63, though. The Angels had a remarkably consistent roster in their early years, especially for an expansion team.
