David,
Thanx for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions!
What is the role of die polish lines in grading a coin. Example, I have a stunning 1940-S Walker, semi-prooflike fields, very strong strike with full split thumb, great head and full skirt lines, as well as only a couple tiny contact marks. It's graded 66 by pcgs. It certainly looks like a 67 to me but the only "flaw" I can see is a number of horizontal die polish lines in the right field, seen primarily with a 5x loupe. I know it's hard to answer this without seeing the extent of the lines, but could that hold the coin back at a 66 if I were to submit it for upgrade??

Hi Steve,
Die polish lines are not a negative unless they really look bad (which they hardly ever do.)
A semi-PL look of a coin with obvious die polishing is a positive.
Can't say on your 40-S Walker without seeing it, but there are probably some really minor flaws that stop it from being higher than 66.
Thanks,
David
