Opinions on this 1824 Bust Half

I believe it's a 4 over 4 variety 2, but from the angle of the picture it's hard for me to tell.

I also believe the color is original NT and would grade is the elusive MS62.

Anybody care to differ or enlighten me with your opinions?

Pretty looking coin. AT or NT? I couldn't even venture a guess without seeing it in person. image

  • I can't state the grade, as I need to see the luster first. It does look high-end and is VERY attractive. I would love to own that coin. The toning looks natural to me. WOW!

If the images are true to life, it looks too bright and AT, though pretty, to me.

I saw that last night on eBay when cruising the Bust half category for holeys. I wouldn't want to venture a guess on NT versus AT, but it is certainly pretty.

Too bad it doesn't have a hole at the top. image

I like the little easel thingie they used for photographing it. Hafta get me one of one of those small, unobtrusive clear plastic ones for that purpose.

If the image is accurate (and the colors) I don't feel the toning is "Original." AT? perhaps.... cleaned and or re-toned? perhaps.....

Dipped and or chemically treated with secondary toning? I would lean more this way. But hard to say with the tilted images and not seeing if there is indeed any luster. Would I buy it?.... not in this lifetime if it looks like that in person. From the image it has a "cartoon" type look to it IMO.

  • I saw that on eBay last night also, and the first thing I thought was that it was blatantly AT'ed. It is still very attractive, irregardless of how it was toned.

I wouldn't venture to guess AT vs NT. Just looking at it, I would think it would get a MS62 grade, but I would have to see it in person. It does look like it might be cleaned. Again, hard to tell from the photos, but it looks awfully bright and shiny.
  • The coin is offered by a reliable dealer (IMO - but I don't know/see any return policy)

Currently at $875 with 3 hours to go. I'm (probably) going to pass, but maybe Jade might want to pick it up (but watch-out Braddick may come along and snipe it image

Even if the colors are "right" (which I don't think they are), it doesn't look "right" to me........

Looking at a few other auctions from the seller, it is my opinion he is juicing up the colors a bit, hence.... making the coin look unrealistic. Like this one.....Text

  • I only see two toned coins he has for sale, this one and the DMPL Morgan.

He's got a lot of nice coins listed image - about 50% are raw, the rest are mostly PCGS and NGC (so why isn't this coin in a holder) image
