(3) 1928 PCGS MS-64 GEM PQ+++ PEACE DOLLARS. FINEST KNOWN. (ALL SOLD!!!!)

In 1928, just over 360,000 Peace dollars were minted, making it the rarest Peace dollar in the series. It is also one of the hardest coins in the series to find 100% blast white as most 1928 examples (about 90% I believe) in PCGS holders are either yellow, toned or have a dullness about them that makes them unattractive. Finding just ONE 1928 Peace dollar that’s blast white is a feat all in itself. I believe that this coin, with this type of eye appeal, is now unavailable in the marketplace. This is truly a VERY RARE opportunity to own a VERY high end INVESTMENT quality 1928 Peace dollar set. I would even go as far as the highest quality 3 coin 1928 Peace dollar set ever offered.

If you have followed my offerings over the past few years, you know that I carry only the highest quality coins. I’m VERY picky when it comes to eye appeal. I can’t tell you how many returns I’ve done to try to bring this set together. There are many coin dealers out there that won’t even talk to me anymore because they feel I’m too picky in what I’m looking for.

It’s taken me almost 4 years to put this collection together after I (or a dealer friend) attended EVERY major coin show throughout the United States. I can safely say that I’ve reviewed just about every 1928 PCGS MS-64 that has come to the market in that time. During that time, I purchased ALL of the blast white 1928 Peace dollars that I came in contact with. My entire collection (in various grades) of 1928 Peace dollars now exceeds 80. You are bidding on THE FINEST 3 COINS FROM THIS COLLECTION IN PCGS MS-64.

When I decided to put this set together, I came up with the following criteria:

1) No large distracting marks on the coin.
2) Huge eye appeal. Blast white (like a new quarter).
3) Great cart-wheel luster with almost proof-like fields. A coin I like to call a “WOW” coin.
4) A coin I’d rate a 64.9 all day long and in the top 2% of the population.
5) A coin you could hold under NO light and find no hue, patina or any type of shadow, mist or spray.
6) A coin you could easily place into a registry set as the highest quality example available, period.

As you can see, a VERY tall order for a VERY high problem date coin. Here are just some of the PCGS MS-64 coins I’ve turned away or have seen over the past few years that didn’t meet this criteria.

Currently, PCGS population report on this coin is about 1000 in MS-64. Because the next grade up goes for several thousand dollars more, resubmissions are common. Different people have different ideas about the exactness of the population reports. I’ve had dealers tell me that they’ve submitted a 1928 10 times before it came back the grade they wanted. Some experts put the population reports off by 50%, some at even 70%. With this being a “KEY DATE” coin, I believe that re-submissions are the norm as it has the LOWEST mintage of all of the Peace dollars. To be conservative, I think we can safely say that there are roughly 500 coins (correctly graded in PCGS slabs) out there to choose from at this grade/slab if you take away what’s in registry sets.

With that said, you are bidding on a total of five (3), 1928 Peace dollars graded by PCGS in MS-64. Your one bid is for ALL 3 coins pictured. This lot contains the following coins:

CERT # DESCRIPTION
1) 1928 21618818 BLINDING WHITE SURFACES. UNBELIEVEABLE LUSTER.
2) 1928 21452783 LIQUID SURFACES, UNBROKEN LUSTER, ABSOLUTE MONSTER
3) 1928 21367914 REMARKABLE FIELDS, CAN’T BE IMPROVED UPON.
4) 1928 21470142 BRILLIANCE BEYOND WORDS. PLEASING IN EVERY REGARD.
5) 1928 21694398 EXCEPTIONAL IN EVERY ASPECT. A JAW DROPPING COIN.

From all of the 1928 Peace dollars that came to market in the past 4 years, I cherrypicked and purchased the best one’s. Take for instance coin #1 above. I cherrypicked this coin from a 59 coin submission (all 1928) to NGC (1787657) which I later crossed to PCGS. A dealer friend had the opportunity to view all 59 coins and buy the best one from that entire lot. Most of the coins in this auction have a similar history. You just won’t find any 1928 Peace dollars in PCGS slabs nicer than these. If you’ve ever seen or owned a pedigreed coin by JACK LEE, you’ll find these coins are of the same outstanding premium quality, if not nicer. ALL of these coins look like they were minted yesterday.
