Cleaning coins

I'm reading Steve Tiver's book (not sure if I have his name quite right), but anyway he states that
90% of all mint state silver dollars are cleaned in some fashion, mostly a light dipping. What does everyone
think about this?
Secondly I was playing around a few weeks ago. I took a 1925 Peace Dollar which to my unsophisticated
eye looked like an AU 58 on a good day and I dipped it in my wifes jewelry cleaner for around 10 seconds and rinsed it with cold water. I have never dipped a coin before in my entire life. I then took the coin to the LB Show
and asked three dealers their opinion of the coins grade. They graded it from a 62 to 64 and when I told one
dealer what I did he chuckled and said everyone does this. Thanks.

I think that percentage is too high. While it's true that a good many have been dipped, perhaps even the majority, you have to remember that millions were stored in canvas bags, most of which would still be bright, fresh and white.

since morgans represent by far the majority of the vast sea of silver dollars extent, i'd expect the overall percentage to still be about 1/2 of all pre-ike dollars.
