And I am still hoping he will eventually realize that serious buyers of coins like this would like to see both sides.

That set has been offered on Ebay more times than I can remember with no takers.
  • Didn't it used to be an even million?

He should auction them off one at a time and start at $1. Just have an auction. He'll get smoe bucks for them.
  • I was just thinking how mine compare to this ultimate set (all PCGS certified unless noted):

    78-CC: 67 vs. my 63
    79-CC: 66 vs. my 08 (don't laugh)
80-CC: 67 vs. my raw ~60 (just got this to complete my upgraded Morgan set just prior to moving to the DC area)
    81-CC: 67 vs. my 64
    82-CC: 67 vs. my 64
    83-CC: 68 vs. my 64
    84-CC: 68 vs. my 64
    85-CC: 67 vs. my 61
    89-CC: 65 vs. my 03 (don't laugh)
    90-CC: 66 vs. my raw ~40 (don't laugh)
    91-CC: 67 vs. my NGC 60
    92-CC: 67 vs. my 10 (don't laugh)
    93-CC: 65 vs. my 10 (don't laugh)

My pride and joy is my 81-CC in 64, and she is STILL 3 grades below this one! image

Edited to add: I think he does this just for the publicity. I doubt if anyone would spend in excess of $1M on an eBay auction without meeting the seller and making the exchange in person. image

I think too many people get caught up in this supergrade snobbery. A 64, or a 64PL CC Morgan can be a very nice coin with minimal marks. A 67 will have less marks, but I have always gone by the "pop" a coin has, even if it has a few more marks than I would like. For example, this 1882-CC MS64PL in my set. I have no desire to upgrade to a 65 or 66, this coin suits me just fine.

    $1,075,000

Is shipping extra? Or is included?

Eric: I totally agree with your above quote...

And I like the cameo contrasting devices contrasting with the semi-PL fields on your 1882-CC. That's a very nice high eye appealing MS-64 looks better than most standard MS-65's with no "pop" to them... A pretty Coin!!

Did you purchase that coin raw and subsequently have it slabbed, or is it still raw as in the photo?

Why does this coin get a PL designation? (It has a nice cameo, but there is zero reflectivity in the field.)

  • A agree with K6AZ and Stuart. I'm quite happy with my 13 CC's which go all the way from Au-53 to MS66. Even left some in the GSA holders ungraded since they're nice and I don't care what the grade is. The 1891CC Eliasberg hasn't been dipped so I guess that's why the PL fields don't show as well. The '91 went for about $125,000 at Baltimore sale but why are the rest so expensive; even combined?

  • I'm with you, K6AZ. You can have an attractive set that is a few grades lower here and there if you choose correctly. BTW, as always, your Morgans are AWESOME for the grades! Good eye. image

I bought that coin a couple of years ago from a seller on eBay. He goofed and did not mention in the title that it was a PL. His images were awful, so I took a chance. I got the coin for $136, and as you can see I got a beauty. It's a PCGS MS64PL. I don't use the holder in my images so I can get the largest physical size and stay within the PCGS set registry limit of 100k for images.
