That obverse definitely "works" much better than if they'd put a circle of stars or whatever around the obverse rim. If it were a US coin, the head would be surrounded with mottoes and stars and mintmarks and so on.
The coin is copper-nickel. The finish is satin rather than bright. It also has a bit of haze as well as toning on the reverse. This odd denimination is but a two year type.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.
