Did I say ?
PCGS PR 64 RB. It is richer than those photos suggest. Proofs are desirable because so few business strikes were produced that year.

<< <i>Well, PCGS pops for an 1872 business strike is 130 total (at least was in January), though I don't know what that would translate into as far as total number of pieces extant. With a mintage of only 65,000 and a number of coins melted (I read about 1/3 of all two cent pieces were melted after production ended -- don't know how many of those were 1872), the total number of extant pieces can't be too high. Guess that's why they cost so much more than other dates in this series. >>
Yep. And even though they cost "much more" than the rest of the two-centers, considering its mintage and extant population, it's *still* a bargain because not a whole lot of people collect the series by date.
If this coin were a Lincoln cent or a Morgan dollar, you could probably multiply the current value by 10.
If you're interested, it is for sale. PM me for details. I haven't listed it yet, as another board member just bought a bunch of 2 and 3 cent pieces from me, and said he might be interested in the pricier dates in the near future, but no committment has been made.
2 centers are still very undervalued
<< <i>...and a F-12 that I bought from a dealer as a common for $10. >>
YOU SUCK!
Be careful as many of the grading services tend to overgrade this coin. I know that this date/coin comes weakly struck on occasion(WE), but I bought several at Vg only to send them in and they came back anywhere from F to Vf-20.
