Newbie question about ebay item 3931520115

When I started looking at this site, I was glad that ebay sales were often mentioned, because I often have questions. In this case, the seller offers this and other items which seem very high end, but starts at a penny, has no returns, and says a lot. Any thoughts? Is the seller in here?

Step away from the keyboard.................... That seller has been a past topic here and the reviews were not favorable.

This seller is notorious for selling ruined coins that are cleaned, whizzed, polished (or all of the above) and quoting ridiculous top-grade problem-free prices for junk.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Pass on this auction, it's not worth the hype. Pay attention to the advice given on this board by the experts (and I'm not one of them), they will NOT steer you in the wrong direction.

There's so much blabbering, it is difficult to tell what is for sale. I think that block is titled description by e-bay... I would expect it to contain a description of the item up for auction.

  • Thanks, this site is great, I thought the flying eagle, which was the first item I looked at, might have been hit by a ballpeen hammer to get the effect. Not that there's anything wrong with that, y'unnerstan.

I wouldn't touch that seller's auctions with your ten foot pole. Don't walk, but run from this guy.

Welcome to the boards. Keep up the good questions as the oldtimers here can help. Internet auctions are a great tool for the cheaters and other lowlife to take advantage of unsuspecting prey. Lots of coins are fake, especially with gold, trade dollars and larger seated coinage.
Reputable 3rd party guarantee companies like PCGS, NGC and ANACS are experts that can usually spot fake coins. As previously said in this thread.......Don't buy raw gold on ebay......Don't buy raw gold on ebay.......Don't buy raw gold on ebayimage

  • I'm a new member too - this is my first post although I have lurked on this board for the better part of a year. I am getting the message that online auction sites are probably a good place to buy and sell circulated "place holders" or for casual collectors, but if you're looking for anything of substantial money value or investment-grade material you need to hold the coin in your hand and deal face-to-face.
    How 'bout them DAWGs!

investment-grade material you need to hold the coin in your hand and deal face-to-face.

    Welcome SaminGA,
be prepared for travelling hassels, time and expense which would be part of the price in finding your investment-grade material.

Instead I think the following combination of circumstances can be achieved on line that would make things much easier and cheaper to allow one to acquire investment grade material:---- known reputable sellers-----3rd party guarantee value graded coins----return allowance on coin once receive if not satisfied----high definition close up photography of coin with sale

To me that coin looks like a cast replica from China, that may or may not be gold plated, likely brass not gold.
The rim looks like it still has the mould flashing on it. Or someone hammered or ground it down to put into
    a pendant ring.
Plus no one would take a real gold coin and put it up on Ebay at way below bullion weight costs.
Even a holed ex-jewelry piece is till worth it's weight in gold.

  • Thanks, that's a good point.

  • Welcome samingeorgia!

It is best if you can take your time to examine a coin in a relaxed setting with good light. I've purchased coins at shows that didn't look as good when I got them home. You can find good coins on eBay, but you need to look for good sellers who offer good photos and a return policy. No matter how good the photo you might want to return the coin after seeing it in hand so a return policy is a must.

And try to ignore folks who imply that a certain coin is valuable because a different date and condition coin sold for millions. "Hey this circulated 1904 Liberty nickel should be worth thousands because a 1913 Lib Nic just sold for 5 million!!!!!!"
  • Thanks!! Good points!

    Run away!!! Run away!!!

Raw gold on eBay is bad enough, but raw gold with no returns is worse. And that seller is a particularly notorious one.
