Where, oh where, do they find these ebay dealers??

I sniped a proof set off of MadMarty on Friday and paid immediately with PayPal. Last evening I got a message from the seller.

Maynard Mertz (mandc@daktel.com) has refunded your payment.
Note from Seller:My paypal account has not been working lately, I am gonna refund yourmoney. I.m sorrey but I am gonna close the account, please send a check ormoney order if you want your goods.

Now, my thought is this! If he was able to recieve and then refund my money, how could his PayPal account be "not working"?

Any thoughts on how to handle this, or what to do?

I would just take my refund and move on. If he lied about his account who knows whats next? Go by your sig line!

Maybe Marty offered him twice the amount????image
  • If you think the coins you bid on are worth it, go through with the sale via snail mail and then don't deal with this seller anymore. Is it worth getting a non-paying bidder complaint and a neg over?

His PayPal account will receive your $$ & refund your $$ but doesn't work......what more does it have to do to work? (scratches head)
His problem is probably with his isp or the www & not pp.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Whats his feedback like? If it is on the up-n-up and you still want the set, go ahead and send him a Postal Money Order, that way you can use the "Mail Fraud" line if there are any problems.

Let the guy know by Email that you want the specific set shown in the listing if you still want the set.

Could he have reached some kind of limit where he had to start paying fees?

    Ken,

Tell him to keep the set. Looking at this seller and his very limited history, the hairs are standing up on the back of my neck.

He hasn't sold anywhere near enough in the last 30 days to reach the $1000 threshhold.

  • Russ, that's exactly what I told him. Keep the set!

  • It's highly possible someone named Maynard Mertz isn't too technologically advanced.

Perhaps he is expecting money to come out of his computer like an ATM machine image
