  • Okay, how do you determine whether the hole was punched in a French 1 centime 1) back in 1875, to create a Viet Nam-Cochin China Sapeque, or 2) last week, to create an eBay scam itemimage

And just what French coin is the basis for this one anyway? Krause cross-references Y#41, but the numbers for 1 centime in the 19th Century start with KM#754, and the auction picture appears to be a dead match (except for the hole) to KM#826.2, of which 2-million were minted. Krause gives the mintage for the holed version at 1-million, but doesn't indicate whether those were part of the domestic production, or in addition.

    Definitely interesting!

Wonder what LordM has to say about it?

This can't be serious. I am racking my brain looking for anything close to this in the Krause. Outside of Indo-China France had a commerical center Kawangchowwan on the Chinese peninsula of Luichow in 1898. But no coins were struck for this French colony. I went to French Indo-China and do not find a sapque with a KM#1 ID. Looks like a nice bullet hole through this coinimage

Try Viet Nam-Cochin China, p. 1194, in the 19th Century 3rd Ed, 1st coin pictured.
