My Great Uncle's Collection, hidden treasure??

I'm not sure if this should go in this forum or not, please move if necessary.

I recently pulled my great uncle's collection from a long storage to take inventory after I was searching for some currency that I was informed was too valuable to be kept with this collection.

Nothing is graded, and I'm still trying to track down the rest of the collection as I know for a fact that all the sets and commemoratives, plus who knows what else is in a box or two somewhere.

Please let me know what I should take a closer look at.

    Hi,

Nice lot there! Most of the items are pretty common, though--if the morgan and peace dollars, as well as the old halves grade high enough, they, too, could carry a hefty price. If they're circulated, they're probably worth less than $20 each, depending on the overall grade and denomination.

  • Like Jeremy said, Mostly common material, but in higher grades could carry a value. Pictures would help a lot in determining value, you also might want to try the Buy, sell, trade forum if your planning to sell these items..

  • no I'm not planning on selling these, as they don't even belong to me, yet.

I'm not entirely sure about this but I think there were 1/20th ounce Krugerrand gold coins made.

That is an off center cent. It's an error coin that usually brings $1-$2.

  • Check the Washington quarters for the 1932 D or S mints.

And the Lincoln Cents for the "S" mintmark on the 1909's. If you see an "S" on the 1909 cent, look on the back. If you see the small letters "V.D.B." between the wheat stalks than you have a coin that goes for $400 in bad condition and can be worth A LOT more in mint state. Also look for the 1914-D and 1931-S cents, those go high too.

You will definitely have to go through the rolls of coins.Even in circulated condition some coins are worth many times face value.

Check die varities on the Morgans. 1879-O, tripled O reverse; 1921-S Thorn Head, 1899-O Micro O, 1889-O, E clash on reverse, 1921-D large die breaks or filled dies.

All of the above can bring nice to large premiums.
