Do you think this coin has been dipped/recolored?

  • Dipped and recolored, not sure. It's a nice looking coin though. image

  • Looks like it's been dipped, but it still is a nice looking coin.

Looks a little futzed with somehow -- just not quite *right* -- but still a pretty nice coin regardless.

I have a couple nice pieces that look similar to this one. PCGS has body-bagged them both due to "cleaning"image

I agree that it doesn't look right, but who am I to judge. I have one that PCGS BB'd for altered services.

The coin does look dipped. The color doesn't look right to me too. It's a nice looking 2 cent.
  • I like it !! Would look fantastic in my type set !! image

My '64 is worn and the "WE" is not visable.
  • It may very well have been dipped but still is a fine looking piece. Is this a piece you are offering for sale or are you interesting in buying it?

Barry, it does not look original.
  • The reverse particularly looks messed with but the die breaks around STATES OF are really cool!

I'm with ziggy. I don't know anything about copper but it just does not look "right".
  • Yes.
  • There's a lot of black stuck in the fine details and the fields look too clear to account for the gunk. I'd say it has been dipped or cleaned in some way. I don't collect copper or bronze issues, though, so I can't say about recoloring.

    Thanks all. I thought so...

I am looking through my 2 centers to decide which one to put in my 7070. This coin has the sharpest details, but the coloring was questionable.

unoojojoe - In answer to your question, neither. I currently own it. I bought it a number of years ago. However, I am looking through some sets that I'm considering selling. This is one I haven't made up my mind yet. Feel free to talk me into it image

mojo - yes, the die cracks are neat. Around the A in STATES, it looks messed with in the pic, but those are just die cracks as well, with some funny reflections in the pic.
