Spotted franklin proof problem- some advice needed

I recently purchased a 62 franklin in a pcgs 68cam holder from heritage, and decided I would jettison a pcgs 67cam that I had purchased about a year ago (I think I might have purchased it from Russ). It's been sitting in my bank safety deposit box for most of that time, and I put a new silica gel canister in the box about 4-5 months ago. I looked at the 67cam franklin today, and it has developed ugly milkspots on both the obverse and reverse. This was a gem looking coin when I purchased it- i had one very small spot at about 2 o'clock on the obverse, and completely deep mirrors. Now it looks like ass. So, my questions are: would pcgs care if a dog is sitting in a 67cam holder? Should I just not worry about it, sell it on ebay with full disclosures, and cut my losses? And should I just yank all of my proof coins from the safety deposit box or just change silica gel canisters every couple of weeks? Thanks for any feedback......

    hmmmm... spotting after the fact???

many Frankies came this way from the mint, resulting in a pr66-pr67 type grade.......

the spotting from the mint cannot be removed with a dip......

I have a pr67dcam stunner coming back fresh from grading, this Franklin has some of the most intense frost I have ever seen...

Yeah, when I got it originally it had the look of a 68. Now I think it's lost 90% of its value. I know I'm a little biased because I really don't like milkspots, but it's really disappointing...... I hate seeing a beautiful coin get dorked up!

I have kept all my proof gems in the intercept shields and intercept storage boxes, they have remained in excellent condition.

Spotting can emerge on proof coins over a period of time even after they are holdered, and silica gel will not prevent it from happening. It has happened to me with coins stored in my safe. Since I first ran in to this, I now dip all proofs prior to submission to stabilize the surfaces. It eliminated the problem.

    You bought a 1963 from me, not a 1962. Auction #2197884251, 10.26.03

Then the one you sold me still looks awesome... So does pcgs care if a lower value slab has an ugly coin in it?

Yep, they care. If you sent it in under grade guarantee, they'd cut you a check for market value or replace it. At this level, though, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle unless you just want to get it off the market - which is a good thing.

I see you added a fresh rat pic. He looks mean! image
