Bowman Sterling

From Beckett.com,

Bowman Goes Sterling

Topps is taking the Bowman brand line to heights it has never seen before – that of $50-per-pack super high premium status for a new line called Bowman Sterling.

Bowman Sterling is a new set and not a tricked-up copy of Bowman or Bowman Chrome. It will feature completely different card images and a price point that places it among the luxury sets on the market.

“We’ve been continually asked by Bowman collectors about creating a high-end Bowman product,” Topps spokesman Clay Luraschi says. “Now we’re pleased to announce 2004 Bowman Sterling. This product’s collectibility and value per pack and box will be unparalleled in the hobby.”

Bowman Sterling will be available just before Christmas, with a December 20th release date. Each $50 pack will contain five cards – 2 Rookie Cards, 1 Veteran Relic, 1 Autographed Rookie Card and 1 Rookie or Prospect Autographed Relic Card.

The rest of the Bowman Sterling lineup:

Just more "wax gambling". Hell at least $50 on a football game gives you 3 hours of entertainment.

edit to add: stevek what's your opinion on expensive packs of cards? You like baseball cards, but dislike gambling. It seems like a conflict of interest here.
  • Blah! I can find better things to do with 50 bucks.
  • Hey Eagle Eye, you should add UNKLBNZ to your sig for card trimmers. He is one of the most notorious...

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?

How would someone obtain the base cards if each pack contains the 5 cards listed above? Not that anyone spending $50 would want a base card--but do they sell the base set on the side as a seperate item if wanted? Just curious...
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Actually I dont think there is any base cards, if you count the "inserts" it adds up to 140 so that is probably the set.

Or maybe they will have a wrapper redemption, lol. 10 wrappers gets you the base set.image $500
  • Hey Eagle Eye, you should add UNKLBNZ

Done! Haven't dealt/bought anything from him personally, but saw/read all the stuff he pulled. Thanks Roach.
