Under a 16x glass it does not look like pvc, I looks like part of the toning.

Then I think it's a keeper! Do you have a reverse pic too??
John (coinlieutenant) your coin looks like a very original EF/AU, has it any luster?
Here's my example of the type, former PCGS AU58
Looks like we got a grading set going.... anyone have a nice VG or Fine? how about a fully MS example with blazing luster??

That is one sweet reeded half.
this year is notorious for die cracks (mine has some, around the reverse lower and left lettering), but your huge break takes the cake!
Very late die state, couldn't have been many more coins struck from that reverse die after yours!
Interesting coin.

Seriously, a very good looking and I would venture, original half!!
I guess I could change my name to "bust-hunter", but then again folks may get the wrong idea. I have been focusing on Jeffersons for a while, but always a collector of beutiful U.S. coins at heart.
<< <i>"very nice Stephunter, but as a person with a Jefferson icon and Jefferson related handle, I think you should turn that half over to someone for proper respect.....like me!!!"

No, but you could always change it to bustchaser, and have your wife really wonder!

stephunter,
That is one beautiful bust half. Wanna sell it? I just bought an 1837 yesterday at the ILNA show that has a similar look. Absolutely beautiful coin. Congrats.
PS - I'll post an image of the one that I bought when I have a chance.

BTW, did anyone else notice the really cool die breaks on the reverse? Obviously a late die state. Very, very cool coin and the die breaks only add to the attractive color/patina.
