I wonder how many screw up's there are..

Here's an auction for a Triple Memorabilia card of Jacques Plante... Link
The pad piece is where the jersey beongs and vice versa.. I wonder how many cards are out there where it's not even that players jersey or equipment on the card. Let's say a Johnny Bower pad on a Jacques Plante card.. a piece of Terry Sawchuks jersey on a Howe card.. new cards suck.

  • Ive wondered that too. How would you ever know otherwise? Who's to say its not a glove they just bought at Bob's Sporting Goods. I guess you just have to have faith.
  • Was I the only one who watched the ESPN "outside the lines" show around a year ago about new cards and how the major trading card companies come up with this product for their Game used equipment?

ESPN was at a NFL combine with Upper Deck (I think) and all the new draft picks for the upcoming season and they had STACKS of shoes, jerseys, footballs, etc. and they had them put on the shoes and play catch with each other, then they had them take off the shoes, put them back into the box, label them with the players name and repeat the process for hours and hours. They did the same with jerseys/football and whatever else they put on football cards. The rep for Upper Deck (I think) said that in the eyes of the company those item qualified as player worn items and each would be cut up into swatches and placed on the lastest NFL cards to hit the market. Most of the show, they had the camera on Byron Leftwich (sp) and he said something to the effect that he was doing what he was told to do and he didn't see anything wrong with it, but you could see it in his eyes that he thought it was a joke!

That is one reason I don't purchase the new stuff. I think anyone who carves up a Babe Ruth GU bat into toothpicks to place on cards should be shot!

But you are correct, they could go out to the local sporting goods store and buy those jerseys and you wouldn't know any different!

Upper Deck is a bunch of sleaze balls
    Good for you.
  • i quit buying game used when i realized that it WAS possible for a player to play 9 innings of a baseball game and not get the least bit dirty, or even sweat. of the 50 or so game jersey cards i had, not 1 smelled or had any dirt or smudge at all. that's just baseball. you would think in football, someone would get dirty at some point, but i have yet to see a dirty one of those also. i'm sure the card companies wash them or whatever, but i can't get a ketchup stain off of a shirt, much less blood or grass. game used sucks!!
