  • Buy all 100 lots and see if you get all the cards promised.
  • It seems as though Ive seen a bunch of these over the years. If he sells them all, he brings in about $2,000. Do you think he's sending out that much?

And is this really any different than the current modern lottery style packaging where you are hoping for that big find?

The seller has a 10-lot limit, so no one can buy all the lots and guarantee getting the "prizes".
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • legal in law terms, yes.

legal by EBay rules, no. They expressedly say in their terms NO LOTTERIES or games of chance. You have to offer what you're selling.
  • unless of course 10 people got together ??????image
  • Too many negative feedbacks from his previous 'lotteries' people saying they just got commons.. new junk.. whatever.. He does have a lot of positive feedback however there's no extatic feedback like 'WOW! I received a Mantle!' you would think there would be a few of those in his feedback but nope.

Interesting thought but I am sure that there would be one lot that "got sold" to someone else.I would just stay away from this one and save yourself some grief(and money)image

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

These sellers with their "dutch auctions" are virtually always a total sham. They remind me of Kenny Goldin and friends who perpetrated this similar garbage on TV for years. The odds of these key cards being given out has to be close to ZERO, if not ZERO. And if the key cards were given out, it would be like their "sister" "brother" "best friend" etc.

I need 9 other people to go in with me- all that stuff for $2,000 seems like a bargain. We can buy it and split it up. If someone did that and didn' get everything pictured, what could you do about it?

to be fair though, he has quite a few positive feedbacks for his dutch auctions..

if you were to buy a wax box and had to leave feedback on every pack, there would probably be 33 negatives out of 36 packs..

that being said, dutch auctions are usually crap..

It's a good way for someone to unload a bunch of garbage that they would have trouble giving away. It is amazing to me that people would purchase from him after a quick glance at his feedback though. Only 1 mention of a decent card in there, and more than his share of neutrals, probably by bidders who were scared of leaving a neg. out of fear of retaliation. He's got no shortage of negs too... I can't believe eBay permits a "powerseller" to have such awful feedback.
  • why ebay doesn't cancel these, I will never know. I've never seen any of these guys get a positive from someone that got the Mantle card because there never was any chance of getting one.

  • Ebay has said in the past that grab bag type auctions are not allowed and in most other categories they are cancelled right away for some reason Ebay has stated that with sports cards as long as the total book value of the cards equals or exceeds the purchase price then there is nothing wrong with that. So if you sell lots of 100 cards for 2.00 per lot then that means that they could all be commons worth 2 cents each in the book. The book price on most commons isfrom .05 to .25 cents so it is easy to overcome that "catch" without giving away anything of real value.
