When PSA damages your card.....how do u prove it?

I just received my order today and was displeased with 1 card. There was a big hunk of white on the upper right
corner and they gave me an 8 on the card. What sucks is, this big chipping wasn't there when I sent it in.
I sent 2 identical cards of this card which I believed were perfect and went through a great deal to get them. One got a 10, the other with the hunk got an 8. I would of seen this easily, and in no way would of submitted this card in the first place. Am I just SOL on this card, since it's very difficult or if impossible to prove at all that it wasn't there in the first place? My word against theirs?

They did the same thing to me a few years back on a Rookie 75 Robin Yount. Came back with a corner peeled back PSA 3. I would have never sent in a card in that condition.

  • I always do a high resolution scan of the cards I send away so I can prove the condition they were in before shipping.
  • EagleEyedKid- What kind of card was it? Did you use a pennysleeve insert with a cardsaver when you submitted? Something similar happened to me on a modern submission. All the cards were submitted with the intent of getting 10's, thay all came back 8's. Every card had a chip on the lower left hand corner. With the hi-gloss coating on most modern cards, if you don't use a penny sleeve, the card sticks to the cardsaver. When the grader takes the card out, part of the card stays behind.

  • Ive never used penny sleeves and have had great luck. But, with all I have heard, I dont really want to press my luck.

    Where is a good supplier?

And in response to the question, I really dont know how you can prove anything. There is no way you can prove that the card that was scanned was the card you sent.
  • Card is a modern 2003 high gloss team issue card (only 1000 made), and I always put each and every card in penny sleeve( with a cut opening on the penny sleeve for easy entry ) then in a cardsaver 1; then use cardboard padding to sandwich them using rubber bands when I submit cards. I normally do bulk (150 - 250) cards, and it would be time consuming to take a close high resolution scan of each and every card (different story if it was 1 -5 expensive vintage). About a year ago, I had 30+ cards that were all damaged in the exact same area (upper right corner). They were all damaged in the same way, that I actually accused them of damaging it on purpose (heck, I was mad....lost it for awhile) as if someone just flicked the corner because it looked weird and I'd never send in junk like that. The upper right corner were all bent back (towards you) which caused chipping (on foil) or a dinged looked on some, and several looked like a fingernail went in the tip of the corner to separate the front & back (that's where my accusation came in), because stuff like that doesn't happen through transit. All the grades ranged from 8 - 10. They were all identical in the matter. However, Peter Ma (operations manager) was great in that situation and stated it was all mechanical error and can't be avoided sometimes during the encapsulation process which may cause pinching on the corners. They actually bought back all the damaged ones at fair market value and gave me the equilvalent in grading submission which I requested anyways. It took a month to resolve. I guess I'm just out of luck on this 1 card as I have no proof on it's original condition prior to sending it in. This was the only strange card in my whole batch. It's still upsetting.

It happen to me (more than once). I submitted some cards in this batch and one came back mislabelled and another came back a 9 (hoping for a 10) with surface scratches on lower right edge about 3/4 of an inch high and 1/4 wide. Those scratches wasn't there before I submitted. I wouldn't submitted it if there is since I know that will be an 8. I did post the picture here long time ago (months back) and some said it was bad and shouldn't be a 9. I notified PSA and was told to sent it back ( I have to pay for the shipping and insurance for this) to them and "will trace the grading history" (yeah right) and the card was in their possession for more than a month with that mislabeled card (only reslabbing). After a month I called up and asked. They said they will check. The next thing I know the card arrived to me after several days. The scratched card was returned without explaination (no write up of their grading history) or compensation for the damage they did. The other card was reslabbed.

That PSA guy named Ritchie lied about taking care of the problem and looking into the grading history -- HE NEVER DID!! Returned untouched without explanation. I called PSA cutomer service and was told that somebody will call me back. Nobody from PSA called me back!!

Before, I sent some cards for grading one came back with a piece of hard plastic on the card. I submitted and noted that obvious debris but returned to me without doing anything. I returned it the 2nd time and encircled with permanent sharpie and with stick pad with arrow drawing pointing to that debris. Finally, they took off the debris but my card was left with a dent. No compensation to this. To think how much it cost me to send back the card 2x plus that dent.

Some people on the boards said they give you free submissions. Never gotten any free submissions or compensation from what they did to my cards.

Influx, I returned the scratch card to them with a printout scan of the card before grading (I had it scanned. I was thinking of selling it but decided to have it graded hoping to get a 10). They never did anything. I even wrote a note together with the card. They have my cards for a month or so and never bother to trace the grading history of the card or find out who's responsible for the damage (scaratches).

I wasted money shipping the cards back to them because of their sloppiness and never got compensated.

    I don't submit anymore.

Probably if you're a VIP submitter or know somebody in PSA you get something from them.

EEK, goodluck I hope you get compensated.

That doesnt mean anything you still cant prove whether PSA did it or you shipping carrier. I sent in batch 8 of the 20 all had dings on the front lower right corner I cant prove who did it. But I had 7 PSA 7's I have submitted 300 or so cards and have recieved 9.. 7's.. total and to get 7 in one order was a kick in the arse.

One of my good friends received one of his cards with a piece of potato chip encased with the card. Guess someone was hungry that day.
