1933-34 Canadian Gum (V252)

I'm thinking of beginning to collect the 1933-34 Canadian Gum (V252) set. It's not as attractive or colorful as the O-Pee-Chees, but there's something about the set that has caught my fancy.

What can the people here tell me about this set? How difficult is it to collect and complete (I'm OK with lesser-condition cards, even poor, as long as there isn't significant paper loss)? Are there any dealers out there with a good supply? If I make it up to the Toronto show in November, am I likely to find a good number available?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm generally a baseball card collector and I don't want to dive into the deep waters of vintage hockey unaware.

  • High grade will (PSA 7 or better) will be close to impossible. Low grade shows up on ebay from time to time. I may be able to find you a set, or a near complete set. PM what you're willing to pay and condition and I will look into it.
  • Funny you should ask about this rare issue...sub number 4190371 zip 01940
  • He said Canadian Gum, not Worldwide gum.
  • I've been watching for that set on eBay for a month and practically none show up in any condition. It seems to be the least common 30s era set.

  • I have a few of these and I agree ...they're tough in nice condition.

  • I agree with BoSox and ArtRoss I haven't seen any of these for the longest time. I've got one card from this set. It's an Ace Bailey and by PSA's standards it probably wouldn't even grade a one. I wish I could post a scan of it but I don't have a scanner.

  • First off that's Lionel Conacher, not Ace Bailey. Secondly, you're right. It won't grade a PSA 1 considering the card is cut in half.

  • Sorry for the confusion BoSox. That isn't my card it is a card I found whilst browsing.
