I won this auction, and I have a funny feeling...

I won this auction, but I notice that there are no less than three zero-feedback bidders pumping up the price, two of them knocking up the bid (and my proxy) by an extra $100 or so at the end.
Now, I have nothing against newbie bidders, we were all zeros once. It's really the ones at the end that make me wonder. How often do two zero-feedback people bid against each other for an expensive card like this?
One of them is odd ... he's been on eBay since October 2000, but has never made a bid before today.
The other has been a member since August, bid on 38 items, mostly expensive, won 1 of them, but no feedback. He seems to focus on the same cluster of sellers, but nothing obvious there.
The zero-feedback who bid early, he does look suspicious with about 30 of his 39 bids being the same seller, but this is his first bid on this seller. He too has been extraordinarily unlucky with his bids, winning just one.
I make no accusations, I don't know what to make of all this, but my antennae are quivering.
Anybody know this seller? He has tons of feedback, has lots of other vintage stuff on eBay right now, and has been around for 5 years, I'm sure he's known here on the boards, maybe even a member himself. I have heard of him, but never done business with him. Any help or opnions appreciated.

There could be a perfectly good explaination for it...but they have been a member for almost 4 years now, no feedback...Then come out of nowhere to make a $700 bid on a card...seems kind of suspcious to me.

i just sold a card to a guy with 18 feedbacks, whose been a member since October of 2001 but doesnt have ANY feedback prior to August of 2004.. he bought a Reggie rookie from me and paid right away..
turned out the guy who bought it was Mike Mamula who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Boston College! i thought that was pretty cool..
Since you sniped, the person with the $700 bid would have had to buy it if you had not sniped and there was no way of that person knowing that you would snipe.
Even if someone is using it as a pseudo-reserve, they are stuck with it if nobody exceeds them.
Its too bad you had to conceivably pay more than if the second place bidder had not made a bid. But it was also within your snipe range as well, so you must have been willing to pay higher.
This one just doesnt smell as bad to me as others have.

Fact is YOU HAD NOT EVEN BID on the item when these 0 feedbackers were bidding. bottom line stop whining and bothering sellers about idiots that run up your bids. You bid and WON pay the man and learn from your mistakes.
I have bought hundreds of cards from Morty, and he is top notch. You can't get shilled with a snipe.

The same conclusion I reached after talking to him. Those two zeros running it up at the end are odd, but not unexplainable. I'm satisfied it had nothing to do with morty. As people have pointed out, politely and otherwise, I was willing to pay this much -- so pay up and shut up.
This is the least he'll take for the card. If someone outbids him, great ! If not, he gets to keep the card and relist it again. Some sellers have multiple id's and allot of sellers know each other - so its very easy to get someone to bid for you. The card is nice, enjoy it.

Very disappointing....Jr is a good guy who was just looking for some support...this is not about sniping or even the final cost....it's about a guy asking if someone ran up the final count...no one likes to pay more than they have to and the final snipe amount by Jr is irrelevant.
Jr is no troll and disserves the kind of treatment that you wanted when you had a "situation."

That is just my thought and thought you got a GREAT DEAL less than SMR(that is where you can see I was being sarcastic claiming you grossly overpaid). i think the majority of the latter part of this thread has been sarcastic (with the exception of your posts).. you made a post towards jrdolan that sounded very inflammatory, but you later said it was supposed to be taken as "sarcasm".. yet, you seem to be really irritated at other peoples sarcasm and take it personally (or it flies over your head)..
