AT Morgan - "Awesome Toned" or artifical toned

Take a look at this Morgan:

Toned 81-S Morgan

Is it AT or NT? If AT, why? I've seen the purple in combo with other colors, but never dominating the coin.

Given It's raw, I won't bid on it, but would like to know your thoughts.

  • Looks NT to me

  • Can't tell from the image because a scan will often "wash out" the real color which we see because of the reflected light off the toned surface. without being able to rotate this coin, you can't tell whether the "color" is AT or NT. If its grey as it seems to look, it could be either.

  • AT, NT? What does it matter cause the toning is not attractive at all. I like his other auction much better End Roll.

Yeah, that one looks better, but has a weak strike, typical for an 02-O. Probably worth at least 25 bucks though.
  • Looks natural to me, too. Black tarnish is not as attractive as colored toning, to me. I'd dip that if it wasn't already too late. I also can't believe that only got a 63. There must be something in the fields that we can't see due to the toning, like heavy bagmarks. I can count the feathers on the eagles breast. The reverse, at least, deserves better than a 63.

  • NT

Why....cause of the white areas around the stars. IMO the white areas are good indicaters of NT.

If I'm way off base about the white areas, please someone straighten me out

The coin doesn't look AT, but it could still be BB'ed for environmental damage. Probably worth less than a white coin, therefore as stated above the AT/NT issue here is moot. This coin should be dipped -- and keep your fingers crossed.

<<<very small batch of coins , and undoubtedly , had been exposed to the same atmosphere.>>>
That makes me think the seller knows they are bad.
Questionable coin in an aftermarket holder, IMO.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
