Humorous Teletrade Coin Description

I was browsing Teletrade tonight and found this description:

Auction 1936 • Lot 1105 • Wednesday, September 15, 2004
Nickel 1886 PCGS 3

Slightly muted satin mint luster remains on this briefly spent example. A few small marks here and there.

Briefly spent before it was plucked out of circulation in 1888 by a young farmer who kept it as a pocket piece for the rest of his life. image

What's up with that? On the one hand, I think the freedom to write snarky descriptions is one of the things that makes eBay tolerable. For instance, I won't soon forget the one about the New Rochelle half with the commentary about how the dude was eyeing that sheep. On the other hand, if I consign a coin to Teletrade, do I want them flippantly deciding to list my coin with some wisea$s remark? I guess I'm just interested to know how that comment got there, and how the consignor feels about it. I might be miffed, but if it pulled a better-than-expected price maybe not. I wonder if it will draw more bidders?

I'm not convinced this wasn't just a mistake. Maybe it was snark, but it might be a mistake, too.

  • How can any mint luster remain on a AG coin?? image

The description is too funny for words, once you see the coin they are describing ! image

Edit: OMFG!! How can they call an AG03 "briefly" spent. It can take years to wear them down that much, especially nickels which is a hard metal to begin with.
