1880-O Morgan grade feedback

Can I get some feedback. What do you think this would grade at Pcgs?

Thanks

StepHunter: Although a bit tough to determine from your photo, but the 1880-O is very tough in grades MS-64 and above, as evidenced by it's astronomical Greysheet price escalation from $300 in MS-63, to $1500 in MS-64, and almost $20,000 in MS-65. image

I will take a guess that your coin is most likely an MS-63 with a long-shot at MS-64 based upon the facial scratches and contatc marks in the fields.

I also suggest that you check very carefully for the 80/79 overdate (see VAM Book for reference), which can be very subtle. Look for the crossbar remnants of the 7 in the top loop of the 2nd "8" in the date, and also check the top of the "0" for minor metal remnants of the phantom 9.

This overdate variety is a very collectible VAM variety that can add a significant market value premium to the 1880-O (It's known as the 1880/79-O).

Hope that this helps, and good luck with it!!

I'm mostly with Stuart here. As a condition rarity in the high mint state grades, this coin will likely not be given ANY benefit of the doubt and is fairly likely to come back with a grade that would be lower than if this were an "S" mint coin of the same year or an "O" mint coin from, say, 1884. Chances are it would come back 63, I think, with an outside shot at a 64. Had it been a common date in higher grades, it could well be a lock 64 with a shot at 65 (depending on how the facial hits look with the coin in hand).
