Which Card Grading Company do I use?

I'm new to card collecting, grading, buying, and selling.
I recenlty just inherited about 5000 football/basketball/baseball cards from my brother. I'm slowly organizing them so that I can sell them. I don't want them.

I am interested in sending some of the RC's that I have found off to be graded. I have found grading services such as PSA, PGS, GAI, SGC, and BGS. I am confused? Who do I use?

I kind of like BGS "Beckett Grading Service" because the prices are competitve and I don't have to be a paying member to submitt cards, but I would hate to send them in and then find out I should have sent them to a different company.

I just want to have some of the rookie cards graded so that 1)Hopefullly increases the value of selling the complete set, and 2)Give the buyer a good idea of what the rest of the cards are like!

Any help would be appreciated for this newbie to card collecting.
Thanks;
Dustin

  • I would stick with either PSA or BGS. I prefer BGS as they are a little tougher at grading, and I think their value is better.....image
I still collect Tim Duncan! Love all high end auto's, and game used basketball of Tony Parker, and Ginobili too! image This means more to me than any card...You can catch me on my site: Highlight Reel Trading
  • "Tougher" grading????

I think that I would prefer accurate grading.

  • if you like overall good grading and consistency, PSA or SGC

if you want to realize the most for your cards if you sell em, PSA

if you want inaccurate grading and awful customer service, GAI

if you want to trim your modern cards and get a bunch of Mint and Gem Mint grades, use BGS
  • I used to think PSA had the better grading til I saw a bunch of fake #d autos that were graded by them image. BGS cards always seem to sell better on ebay, sorry....that's been my experience anyway.
I realize PSA is part of CU, lol....

Unless you get a BGS 9.5 you don't have anything. I hardly see anyone interested in a Mint 9,
  • For resale, PSA and BGS are the most recognize in the business and both sell well on ebay. Both have had problems with cards being graded that shouldn't have (trimmed, fakes, etc...), but that's the nature of the beast. PSA doesn't offer half grades, so that might hurt values a bit. BGS does (ie:7.5, 8.5, etc...). This can sometimes help in sales as I'd rather have a 9.5 than just a simple 9 that couldn't quite get a 10. Anywho, either choice will be fine.
