Player Set Question (Basic vs Master)

My question is in regard to Donruss DK's as well as Glossy Issues. Do these belong in the Basic Set? What about All-Star cards?

Thanks,

Glen

Diamond Kings and All-Star cards are in the master sets, not the basic. The basic registry set includes only the base Topps (and Donruss, Fleer, etc. if applicable) cards issued during the player's active career. This is a good thing for those who like to work on a set, but have no desire to collect hundreds of cards and other oddball items for that player. Anything that PSA grades is eligible for the master set.

    Glen,
While I whole-heartedly chase the master sets for Gary Carter and Reggie Jackson there are other players that I collect on a lesser scale. My problem is that I find myself in between the basic and master set. Like your question alludes to, I really want the Diamond Kings, all star and in action cards, it's the drakes, fleer boxed sets and stickers that don't interest me. As I was trying to decide whether or not to bid on a card recently I found myself trying to decide how it fit a registry set. When did I start collecting for the registry rather than using the registry as part of my collection? I'm not sure but I was quite surprised. It's so trite, but buy the cards you like, if they fit a registry set that's great, if not, enjoy the cards.

  • Thanks all. My question is because there are DK's and Glossy's in the Fisk Basic set. I have these in 10 but I am wondering if they should be moved out of the basic set.

    Thanks,

    Glen
