Curious question regarding var and errors.

When trying to identify a certain variety or error coin, (Doesn't matter whichone however we can use a dbl die as an example). When listed as one of the diagnostics is a Die Crack, but the coin does not have such die crack. Is it still possible that this could be that same error or var, however just in an EDS?

Thanks all
Ron

Unless the variety is a die break such as the Bearded Goddess bust half, I would say yes.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

A die crack wouldn't necessarily indicate a die STATE, but it would define a die STAGE. A die crack can occur at any state of the die-an example would be some of the major doubled dies on Washington quarters during the WWII period-some of these are quite rare and are known ONLY in an early die state but still show fairly extensive die cracks apparently from improperly prepared dies. Conversely, the lack of any die cracks doesn't always mean a coin is an EDS-some dies lasted the full die run without developing any problems.

You may have a previously unreported die STAGE of your doubled die-a significant discovery-something that should be reported to CONECA.
