It didn't appear cleaned at all in the auction pics but it sure does in hand. Can anyone with the book help me with an attribution? Thanks.

<< <i>So were the top two pics in the auction listing, or did they use different photos? >>
No, all the pics in the first post of the thread were taken by me tonight. Below is the auction photo.
Edited to add.... The gouge is in the auction photo. Did you notice it and bid anyway to complete a set?

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.

some folks think "cleaned, and harshly" whenever they see a few hairlines.
I think this is incidental friction from sliding on surfaces, not a heavy cleaning.

No, only the obverse seems to have the damage to it.
there's a thick cloud of sweeping paranoia on this forum when it comes to the concept of "cleaned" coins. yes, original is best, but a 170 y-o coin that's been through the wars can be forgiven it it actually shows signs of CHARACTER.
how will YOU look at age 170?
if it were a common date morgan, i'd say melt it. but you have a nice coin there, & should simply enjoy your tenure as it's owner. i congratulate you!
