Hard to say. While the "5" looks correct for an 1856, I'm with you that the 6 looks a little goofy. And why someone who sells this many coins wouldn't slab it for authentication if they thought it was real is beyond me. They could probably get an extra grand on the final price from people as people who wouldn't touch this coin raw join in the bidding.
It appears to be real. But it would be nice to see the real coin though. But it still makes me wonder why it isn't slabbed. There is the risk that it is a really good fake.
Watch the second highest buyer - he's got no feedback - he looks like he's going to bump the highest bidder, then maybe bail out of the deal. It looks odd...maybe I'm paranoid
The bids are up to 7400 for a hairlined/cleaned F/VF 56 Flyer. Amazing...
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Also, while you're at it........check out the sellers' 1916-D Merc...its raw...and looks counterfeit to me. That auction is over in less than 13 minutes...............
I pity the poor sob who bid on it...and won (lost)l

One thing is for sure, that 0 feedback bidder has a definite affinity for cnicoin's auctions.
The coin appears to be a proof. Snow-9 about PR-25 ???
Blow up the obverse, invert colors and look for the "Die Dot" next to the top left (under the cap) of the "N" just above my pooly drawn skinny black arrow.
God that 16-D dime is hideous. Not only does the MM look funny, but it's been cleaned and the reverse is severly gouged. Definitely not a thousand dollar coin, even if it does turn out to be real.
The 16-D Dime is described as having "light marks". I don't think so. Those heavy gouges would definitely BB the coin. What would ANACS do? Net grade it G-4? Ick!!
On the FEC, I thought the zero feedback bidder was a shill, but he also bid on the 16-D dime only once late in the game, so it is hard to tell. $8,100 is way too much for a VF raw one, though.

Look at the 6 on this one. It's the same.

Good Lord that is Madness!!!
look at the items that the underbidder has received feedback for. Very odd.
for roughly another 3-4K I'd sell someone my AU50 PCGS one!

Not even an S3 to boot!
