Any Japanese baseball card/sticker collectors out there?

Hi Guys, Here's something totally different from me. Are there any Japanese baseball collectors out there? I found an old box in the back of my closet and it had two different unopened packs of Japanese cards/stickers. I think one is cards and one is stickers. I say this because I also have one Japanese raw card and one raw sticker in holders. It stands to reason that I bought two of each and opened one of each to see what they looked like. I think that they are 10-15 years old and have been in a thick plastic holder since I bought them. It would be great if anyone can help me to figure out what year they are and who made them. I'll try to post a scan of each tomorrow. Can anyone explain to me how to post scans on this thread? Neil

I have a modest collection of unopened Japanese baseball packs going back about 25 years, so I might be able to help. Once you scan them, use the "attach file" thing at the bottom of the post.

  • I have a couple friends who are actually Japanese, but I don't think they know baseball. If you post scans I can have them take a look and maybe tell you the brand names or something.

BTW, last time they went back home, they brought me some Japanese stuff, a couple manga comics, a robot action figure thing, and a pack of baseball cards. Actually the cards were a MLB Showdown type CCG called "Field of Nine." I didn't get anyone big in the pack, except I did recognize Tony Tarasco. I had wondered what happened to him.

Here is the site of a guy I know who knows all about Japanese cards. He sets up at the National with only Japanese offerings. He is out of NYC.

    His name is Rob Fitts

    Good luck

The blue one is 1989 Calbee. One undersized card per pack. The other I believe is 1990 Lotte. Lotte only made cards for two years and my '89 pack does not look the same. I've bought most of my packs from Rob Fitts, and he can probably help you further.

I used to have several boxes of the 1990 Lotte cards, the gum was very good,it had a sweet banana/ strawberry taste. I also remember the 1989 Calbee packs being very popular in 1990 and 1991 because of the Cecil Fielder cards in the set. I remember seeing dealers charging $5 per pack to collectors in the hopes of them getting a Cecil.
