It is a misconception that DCAM and UCAM cannot have frost breaks. The designation is based on the overall look of the coin and minor breaks and fades are sometimes acceptable at both services - regardless of their published guidelines.

    First of all, Good score!
The mirrors on that coin are truly spectacular and the surfaces are immaculate, but

Even though obviously the grading services give allowances on frost breaks such as this coin, thier is no way I would be happy buying a Pf-70 coin with that kind of frost break. I am sorry, but IMO this is tough to swallow in a 70 holder. I would rather have a small hairline in some inconspicous place than to have the frost break on the central design feature like this.

I double that. I'm sending my frost giant it, hopefully it'll come back PF70 Ultra Cameo *STAR*image
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • And to think I used to stick up for NGC's grading standards, not any more with that degree of break in the frost. (insert "hanging head in shame" emoticon here)

  • Good job, now if you could only convince them that your accented hairs are that good.

  • I really don't like the way modern proofs are graded, that coin is not a 70, the frost break shows that, I don't care if your an expert. Sorry Madmarty I would never buy that as an PR70.

Interesting division of opinions here. Despite the reverse accented sideburns, I still like it, even though it's a kennedy....

Here's a clue for everyone. You ready? There are plenty of PCGS graded PR70DCAMs with exactly the same type of frost breaks in the same locations as this coin.

<< <i>that coin is not a 70, the frost break shows that >>

Clue number two: Frost breaks do not impact the numerical grade of a coin. They are "as minted".

Am I not seeing haze on the reverse of a 70 graded coin? I hope it's only in the picture as the coin looks great even if it is in the wronge type holder.image
