Barber quarter question...

Do barber quarters have a reeded edge. Becuase I think I have a fake one..its very light...and has some wierd gunk that normally doesnt appear on silver quarters. My grandfather passed this down to me...so I did not get "taken" I was just wondering if fakes are common?

The "gunk" may be silver tarnish. Barber quarters are supposed to have a reeded edge but it could be that smoeone took a file to it or wore it down, a lot. But it is highly unlikely that it wouldn't have a reeded edge from being worn down exept if it's barely recongnizable as a coin.

Yes, they have reeded edges. Pics would be best.

At the moment..I cant post pics. It does have a reeded edge...but its not the normal black tarnish/toning/gunk. Its more of a red crusty kinda stuff. And its noticably lighter in hand when compared with another one. Very odd...
