Could you explain what you mean by it coming from a 12 piece pattern set??
The Eliasberg coin that resides in a east coast collection, lot #609, was described as possibly coming from "....part of an 1858 cent set at the mint." There is no mention of it coming from a 12 piece pattern set and it was a low-leaf reverse. It could have been in a 2 piece coin set. The $39K coin is a high leaf reverse from the same die pair as other proofs which have more typical mirrored finishes.
My guess is that this is either a proof with polish lines or was a early MS emission from the proof die pair and that it had nothing to do with the 12 piece set.
That said, it was a gorgeous coin that I was prepared to bid 20K for. Problem was it opened at $26K!
Being in the medical profession it should be easy to get a testosterone injection.20 K is just not going to cut it and you need a gem small letters to complete your flying eagle set.:
And why are you offering me only 16 K ? Boiler will pay more than that just getting ready to bid.
I say this is a proof like 1858 SL from a 12 piece pattern set because of the look, the die striations and most probably the rim when PCGS examined it.It did not have the look of an ice skating rink.
You know it is possible to get it put in a Proof holder by NGC.
Do you know who bought it?

Not by anyone in the room so I don't know. Everyone IN the room had a very amused look.
