Ever Heard Of A Low D Half Dollar Dated 1989?

I need Some Info On this Coin And Can't Seem to Find Any

IS This Coin An Error And What is the Value?

Comments

  • Before 1990 the mintmarks were added to the dies by hand so their position tends to wander around from die to die. Sometimes when a seller notices that they will try and sell a coin that has the mintmark that is "off" from the commonly seen location as some kind of specialty piece or error. So te coin you are describing probably has the D mintmark lower than "normal". It is not worth any premium.

    Thanks For the Info

  • I've noticed the same "inconsistent" mint mark placements of Denver cents from that same era (late 1980s to early 1990s) as well. A few look lower, but most I've seen are well to the right of its normal placement. I've seen several of them in my change, and I've heard virtually nothing about these from error experts so it's doubtful these will ever command a premiuim. Still, an interesting piece to look at.
