Does someone have a picture of a wire edge coin?

For some reason, I cannot picture in my head what a wire edge looks like (I think I know, but I am not entirely sure). Thanks.

Here are both the wire edge High Relief Saint and the wire edge Indian eagle. It is hard to really see the edge due to the slabs.

Thanks for the pictures, but I still can't get a visual (sorry, maybe I'm just being dense). In theory, would you need to take the coins out of the slabs and look at the edges? If so, what will it look like? I read it described as resulting from "metal being squeezed around the collar and the dies at the same time of striking." Therefore, is it something that shows up on the edge of the obverse on the coin, or on the edge itself?

I haven't seen one before, but I picture the edge looking like this: in profile. Kinda like cast coins look. Am I close?

    No i wasn't close.

Oh Yes Boiler...pls crack them out and show us the edges. We don't get to see such exceptional coins very often. Does the '07 NM Wire Edge have stars on the edge like the others...? Yummmmmmmm

The wire rim is formed when metal squeezes up between the collar and the neck of the die.

So it's really on the rim. Thanks for the clarification.

Nicely done condor and all! Actually, when you know to look for that raised outer edge you can spot it...and I have never seen anything other than photos of this. Longacre should be all over this wire edge from the 8 1/2 x 11 full page photo in the amer ency of amer gold coins. The raised edge is very clear on there and also on the photo by boiler. Man, it would have been nice to go to the Smithsonian and get a peep at one of these but when I was there, I didn't know to look for it. Now I do and it's gone.

Now let's get out there and find some wire rims to share.

Here is a better example...look at the coin edge at ~1:00-5:00...you can see it as a very thin irregularity. I have seen it out of the holder and it's rather inconsequential. As a sidebar, I have a number of early Saints that have wire rims! It was pretty common. I think the two varities of the Hi-Relief was a way for dealers to sell more H/R's!!!! It's the same damn coin IMO!!
