The new 2004 UD Legends is out and I'm thrilled to see that there is a Bake McBride card in the set. I want to accumulate as many as I can, base cards, autos, multi-player autos, etc. I am especially desirous (AND covetous) of the gold parallel set, #/5, so this is where I need your help. Please be my eyes on the prize for this one. If anyone pulls any, sees anyone pull any, hears of anyone, or sees any listed on the web, please let me know. I'll scan ebay regularly, but if you see one, go ahead and notify me so I can be sure I'm tracking it.
If anyone busts this product and pulls any Bakes, I'll take them off your hand. Keep in mind, I'm neither rich nor crazy, so I won't pay $20 for a base auto (probably a lot less than that), but I do really want the golds.
I still also need a 1974 Topps #601 PSA 8 or 9.
I'm also going after the complete gold parallel set if I can do it cheaply enough.
Thank you for your support.

Stalin - if you only care about HOFers, yes that card is disappointing, but if you are a fan and collector, that card is awesome. Get Del Unser and Greg Gross on there, too.
I don't know why he's my favorite (old-time) player. I was born in 1970, and growing up in Philadelphia through the 70s, when a young man gets really forms his connections, we had some good teams. Three straight divisions, then losing out to the Pirates, then the World Series in 1980, and again in 1983. In addition to the elite players Schmidt, Carlton, and Rose, we had Boone, Bowa, Lonborg, Luzinski, Maddox, and Trillo, all-stars at almost every position. But for some reason, Bake McBride was the one I tuned into. He was just cool. Rookie of the Year in 1974 with the Cardinals, the Phils got him for his speed and average. While he only really played 2 full seasons, that didn't matter. He could hit, run, and grow his 'fro out, which was important at the time. He seemed to always get timely hits. I'm probably mistaken, but I seem to recall him hitting 2 pinch-hit grandslams in one week. Maybe it was the team in general that did. He was a good player, but never seemed to quite make the most of his talent, which I also identify with. Too many distractions. After the Phils traded him to Cleveland (no, not for Von Hayes, but Sid Monge), I'm not sure what happened. I think something went wrong with is eyesight. Anyway, if he had gotten 6 more hits, he would have had a lifetime average of .300. With all the retro products of the past few years, I could never understand why he was left out, especially given the inclusion of so many players of lesser accomplishment (such as it is). Maybe he was asked, but just didn't want to do it. But this will be a fun chase for me.

Add to the list Dave Cash, Larry Christenson, Tug McGraw, Juan Samuel, etc.
Some obscure Phillies trivia. Greg Luzinski lived a few doors away from wrestling legend Gorilla Monsoon during the 70's in a suburban South Jersey town. I used to walk past their houses on my way to high school. The Gorilla's daughter was a cheerleader, and quite the looker. Let's just say she filled out her sweater.
Thanks for the memories.
