Hurricane Francis and the lost Ike!!!!

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
I had this bugger in my sights last night but when I returned home around 9PM there was no power!!!!! BUMMER!!!!! It seems Hurricane Francis was raising a ruckus as it moved up the East Coast and had knocked down some lines. Things finally returned to normal when all the lights popped on just before 4AM. Man, that was a rude awakening.

As for the coin, it's a PCGS MS66 and most definitely not your ordinary 1972-D. Oh well, another will come down the pike, I'm sure.

I live in West Central Florida and lost power and phone lines
for 5 days. I had a generator for power, but the computer needs
    a phone line.image
I knew it was coming, so anything I was interested in, I loaded
up on a sniper program. That's one advantage to those sniper things!

  • I find it hard to believe that Ikes are commanding such high prices - but I guess they're really that hard to find!

It still cracks me up how Teletrade lists these clad Ikes under "silver" dollar!

Keets, it does appear you missed a beauty.

PCGS has become extremely tough on their grading of the mint state copper/nickel business strike Ikes. This has occured over the past 2 to 3 years and has dried up the supply of MS66 and higher examples. Short supply versus increasing demand equals higher prices. Even for the earlier more loosely graded pcs. like the 72-D sold here. Astute Ike buyers should be able to tell by the cert. numbers approximately when the pc. was graded.

Decided to give a little more information; anyone interested?:
Copper/nickel business strike Ikes in slabs with cert. numbers beginning with 212, 213, 214 etc. up to 216 and just recently any slab begining with 400 have been graded using the new tough standards; ie within the last 2 to 3 years.

    MisterR,

I'm always interested in IKE info. I always check out your auctions, but it's also good to see you posting some good IKE knowledge. Thats some excellent info on the slabs, I'll have to go check mine out.
