I thought the coin was beautiful, though I couldn't see it live. Guess I am one of the culprits on moving the bid high. Sorry Stewart. Bid last night $26,000 to $37,000 (withOUT the juice) against someone at the closing half hour on Heritage internet. Thought I would scare someone away. NOT!! Thought I would phone bid after interent close, but others out there will bid forever. Forget it, I am OUT. One sold for $2000 in 1993. Do you know what a 2K compunded investment return to $45,000 in 10 years is??? 35% per YEAR!!!!! One in a million STOCKS is lucky to achieve that!!!! Out of control, IMO.
Congrats to the seller. The only way this "exhuberance" would slow down is if more high pops show up from other TGP holders into PCGS. But it seems others out there will pay anything. Can only nod my head...
Be interesting to see what it sold for....
Based on my limited knowledge of auction prices realized,I'd say your right about this coin. However it really doesn't surprise me.You as well as most of us know that the Lincoln Cent has been the most collected coin for a long time. There are some who will say it is second to the Morgan $,but I believe there are more Lincoln collectors than any other series. Some of these have very deep pockets. Some are willing to spend what ever it takes to own the finest examples.Your 1919 would probably break a record if you were to sell it !!!
Registry 1909-1958 Proof Lincolns
I was the one who bought the 1914 in ms 67 red in 1993 for $2,000.I owned the one in tom Mershons set too.I think he only paid about 15 k for it with Dave Schweitz also involved......and he cried like heck he thought he paid too much only two years ago.
Final price is $43,700 to either Gerry or Bickell
Congratulations to the winner.I guess I'm also a winner

If only a few big dogs fighting for the registry set top spots, how much are the coins really worth??? 1916 MS67RD's went down about 30% from recent prior auctions. What is left that will come to market in the high pop lincoln PCGS reds???
My guess is either Gerry or Bickel.I believe Gerry needs it more than Bickel. At the last sighting Bickels testicles were bigger than Gerry's.
The pop on the 1916 went up at least 30% which is why the prices went down by 30%.A dead man had a roll in his safe deposit box.
Shylock - Why should I sell my coins unless I need the money? I wouldn't have bought the coins if I needed the money.Like most collectors its in my blood. The one thing I can tell you is that every #1 modern (contemporary) coin registry set has been sold except my Lincoln cents,Indian cents, my half cents and my Barber dimes. This is the reason,I believe, that causes Lincoln cents to hold their value.

Those are moderns?
I agree with you, Stewart. Just because prices are going up doesnt mean you have to sell them. I'm like you. I like to look at my stuff on a regular basis. Can't if I sold them!!!! Some day Stewart, I wish I could see some of your stuff. Especially your best 1922 NO D strong reverse, and the 1914-s, and the MS69 1919. Anytime. (smile). And your 1877 IHC.
Thanks for giving me (and the rest of us) good information about the lincolns. Where they've been, where they are from, etc. It's very informative to answer some of my curiousity.
