PSA 10 Carlton Fisk rookie sold for 12.5K ?

The SMR magazine states that the PSA 10 Fisk Rookie
sold for 12,500.00 in 2001.

Does anyone here remember the auction ?
Was it ebay ?
Was it an auction house ?

I don't remember.

I wonder who the buyer was. I am the owner of the 1/1
1973 opeechee Fisk PSA 9 and would sell it for a crazy
price to go after some other things.

That 12.5k price tag is 30x PSA 9 SMR, which is highly
unusual. PSA 10's usually don't bring that big of a rise.

    I might even recall who the owner/seller of the card was. Not sure, as I know that there is more than one Fisk rookie in 10 out there, I think. At any rate, it was a private sale. There is an advanced collector out there who has a pretty significant collection of GEM MINT Hall of Fame rookie cards. I'm sure if you do enough searching through this Forum, you can figure out who it was, etc.

    I don't think the owner would be interested in your 73 OPC card, FWIW.

    This single buyer, in and of himself, has pretty much caused dramatic change in the prices/multiples paid for certain star/HOF rookie cards in top grade. I'm sure if you wait about 9-10 months, you might have an opportunity to purchase a CD/DVD that has scans of many of the cards in this person's collection.

    I'm not sure who you guys are talking about but I know Dmitri Young was showing interest in Fisk RC's a couple years ago (maybe he still is, I don't know). I was checking his auctions that he bid on and he won several raw ones for like $15 each. I remember thinking it was kinda wierd since he was dropping sick money on huge PSA 10's and then some raw $15 cards. I could see him spend 12K on that card.
