Pre History: Coin was purchased on EBay and sent to ANACS for cross over so I could complete a set of 1972 DDO in all die varieties (because PCGS does not slab the other 9 die varieties). ANACS sent it back as “Recolored”
Coin was sent to PCGS and logged in 8/31. But today, Hall called asking permission to crack it and acetone it. I gave the go ahead. Two hours later, I get a call saying check is in the mail.
Thank you PCGS for your excellent customer service.

BTW, I'm not an alt ID - I posted the linked thread for dad (WaterSport).
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
And, the review was done quickly.
ANACS also deserves praise for catching PCGS's mistake to begin with. I would think that is a bold move on ANACS part, to bodybag (essentially, by not crossing it) a PCGS coin.

Coincidently, have a 72 DDO on the way for crossover now in an old Hallmark slab.

May I ask, do you know more about how they determine its value? So for example if I send in a 64rd 27-s and they determine it to not be red anymore, will they pay out the $600 their price guide states, or the $2000+ they've been going for in auction?
They pay market value for the grade initially assigned... unless you opt to take the coin at its lower grade, then they pay you the difference in market values. So, if the coin is selling consistently at $X, they'll pay $X.
