Opinions on selling my Canadian Dollar Set

For all you Canadian experts that have followed prices realized. Who should I trust to sell my collection? I own the Pop Star Collection, 1935 to 1952.

    WSM - very nice set!

I wish I could add it to the Gene B. collection!

There are a couple of auction houses that I've bought from.

    1. Heritage in Dallas is offering a bunch of Canadian material in their Long Beach auction this week (online bidding ends tonight).
    2. Charles Moore from Walnut Creek, CA runs the Torex auctions in Toronto. Chuck is also President of the CNA.
    3. The Canadian Coinoisseur in Vancouver also does the Torex auctions. www.coinoisseur.com
    4. Jeffrey Hoare from London, Ontario www.jeffreyhoare.on.ca

Heritage will get you USA coverage, while Moore - Coinoisseur - Hoare will bring in the Canadian $.

There's always the Bay and their world wide audience. Maybe do one of those live auctions where the buyers also pay a "buyers fee".

Or you could sell them to me and I'll pay a $1 a week for the rest of my life!!!! image

That reminds me, I need to play the lotto!

    There was a boom?

As for selling your coins, it's really hard to say. I've been to recent auctions where the bidding has been active, and others where things went slowly. The Torex's is usually a good bet, especially ones that are also done on eBay Live (Walsh's auctions aka Canadian Coinoisseur).

  • If your coins are average for the grade, then ebay is probably your best bet. If the coins look better in person, and have lots of eye appeal, then a Moore or Walsh auction that coincides with one of the larger Ontario shows is probably your best bet for full realization of your investment.

No, its just started, thats why Im waiting till Feb to sell! I just submitted the coins to Superior for the Pre Long Beach Feb 20-22. I really like their catalogs and am impressed with the prices they've been getting! For me, it came down to two choices, ANR or Superior. I think Superiors location was the difference, maybe it helped that Oregon PCGS MS67 realize $69,000 or the 1908 Half Eagle PCGS PR61 get $46,000.

Superior did a good job on those coins, but location had nothing to do with it. BTW, does anyone else here know why the half eagle sold for so much money?

Paul - I trust we will both walk away from this with the same lesson: Ask a stupid question... image

  • Yummy - though the wings look a little small to be an eagle.
