best place for finding old coins in circulation

I just got back from Lake George NY and let me tell you, every small shop in the center of town had old coins in their till...I never seen anything quite like it. The shops draw people from all over US and Canada, and alot of old people especially. I was in a small shop buying 2 lamps, one a hot air ballon and one a plane, anyhow I remarked I had just gotten in change 6 of the 7 varities of 82 linc cents and a 41 large S jefferson in the previous shops. I was overheard buy the lady wrapping my lamps (owner of the shop) and she says let me show you some stuff. She proceeded to whip out indian cents, large cents, morgans, 3 cent nickels, all demnom of barber coinage, lot of mercurys etc. Now all this was circulated mind you, nothing high end, but all from the till. She was saving it all as a novelty but decided she didnt want it and gave it to me for face (27.35) which im sure once booked will be a heck of alot more. I even mentioned so to her, but Ive done business with her in the past for just shop items and she knows mom, so she didnt care. Once I left I purposely found something small to buy in the remaining shops, only to find more old coinage...I really never saw anything like it before...spooky but fun.
