How would this forum be different if...

...post count numbers were not displayed?

Comments

  • Wayne,

Your post made me realize that I've been participating on these forums for over two years now and have given my (usually wrong) opinion over 1500 times.image

I average 2 posts a day. Does that seem excessive?

I only reply to threads that I find interesting or if someone has purchased a coin that I like, I'll tell them. I don't really care about post counts much.

Wouldn't matter to me, but I'm sure there are some who would not like it.

    Ha!
    Good, provocative, question Wayne!

I think that some with high post counts, like Russ/Lucy/and some others would still do everything the same. Most of their posts have substance (like it or not in some cases).

For some others....I won't mention any names.....I think there would be a lot less of their posts.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I think the only real effect would be that people wouldnt celebrate certain post counts (i.e. 1000, 2500, 5000, 10000) with a coin give-away.

  • Wouldn't affect me at all. I'm not a post whore.

  • Would not bother me in the least. Some post a lot and actually are informative. Some post a lot and end up saying not much. Some post little but say a lot. And, some post little and contribute little.

It's really just like in real life. Some people will tell you whats on their minds and others will talk BS!

I wouldn't really care, but it would mean that we would have to just hold giveaways at random, versus at a certain number of posts.
  • post count ,schmost count...

I figure everyone here knows more about coins then I do, so the count doesn't matter much to me. I value everyones opinion.

"And, some post little and contribute little"

    that would be me....

For me, it wouldn't be different. But one difference would be fewer giveaways!

Aaarrrrrrrggghhh. No. What would be the point of posting at all?

It's the cheat threads that would suffer the most!!! The "ttt" thread, the "official" and
"unofficial cheat" threads, perhaps even the "last word thread" would be decimated.
The open forum would be populated by lost souls with no where to go and nothing to
say. This forum would be greatly changed without that little number that goes up when-
ever we hit "reply to thread".

    Oh, the humanity.

post count, who cares. probably 75 percent of mine are not even on this forum. If they were wiped out I'm sure there'd be at least 1 person crying.

Almost 100% of mine are from this forum. image I guess I like stats. But I was around in the days before message boards kept those stats so I wouldn't miss them.

To me, it wouldn't make any difference. I pay no attention to post counts. I guess it would affect those who think the posting scripts are some sort of top secret, even though there are a number of places you can download the script, enter the details for this site, and hit 10,000 posts in a few minutes on a broadband connection.

Well sure. There are lots of lost souls with no where to go but most of us have much to say about it.

I can't wait to ttt this thread.

Some of us would have more repect for some people who apparently have fairly lame lives, some posting here as much as 30 times a day...for months, and months and months!

  • If they did not have the post count how would we know who the expert collectors are and who does not know what they are talking about? image
  • Good and creative question.

Could you imagine the fit that some would throw if counters were dispensed with?

"That's my whole life...and I've almost caught so and so!"

    hey RR

we'd still have titles like we have now, only the count wouldn't be displayed under the icon like it is. PCGS would know and maybe a few members who tally thier totals----how sick would that be.

about the only time i look at a total is when someone new or unfamiliar shows up.

snake, - those that post many times a day and enjoy these forums have their reasons or need, and may not be as busy as you or I - nor may they have much more either - regardless, that was a low statement with no grins or anything suggesting it was made in poor faith. JMHO, as I like everything else about your mercgandise image

I think the post count encourages an excessive number post initially, but after the first couple hundred posts, I can't imagine users pay much attention anymore.

Personally, I think the post count should be eliminated all together. It's kind of silly.

Other than as an excuse for a giveaway, it seems pretty silly that the post count is even listed. Perhaps it's supposed to imply some kind of seniority or something like that, but this is just a message board, not a union hall.

It would probably slow things down a bit. I wouldn't be answering a post like this because it wouldn't exist.
