Get Well Soon, Bob Z.

I just got off the phone with a friend and fellow board member/Washington collector, and was informed that Bob Zurick has been hospitalized with a stroke. Everyone send out a healing thought to Bob.

edit to change title and add:

Bob, I hope you are able read this soon. We're all pullin' for you, Bud. Still hopin' to see you in Santa Clara.

I'm very sorry to hear of Bob's illness, and wish him a quick recovery. It will be odd not seeing him at Long Beach.

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you Bob. Get well soon, buddy!
  • Collector friends,

I attempted to call Bob Zurick last night. Bob and I have always had some great conversations, so I called to chat. First I tried him at home, but there was no answer, so I then tried his cell phone. Much to my surprise, his wife Ruth answered. Normally, Ruth doesn't answer Bob's phone, but she said she saw that it was me, so she answered. What Ruth then told me next really shocked me, and not in a good way...

Our dear friend Bob suffered two strokes last Saturday. The first one, a milder one, came while he was at home. Ruth then took Bob to the hospital at this point. Sometime after they arrived at the hospital, Bob suffered another stroke, but this one was much more serious. At this time, Bob is unable to speak and his right side is paralyzed. The hospital has done some preliminary brain wave tests, and so far, thank God, it appears that his brainwave activities are functioning normally. Ruth said that Bob is aware of what is going on around hi, but he's unable to commuincate so far. It is however, too soon to tell how much of a recovery Bob will make, but if I know Bob, we will not give up without a fight.

For those of you who know Bob, he is a kind and wonderful man. I have known Bob for several years, and in the arena of Washington quarters, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more knowledgeable and educated man on this series. Also, Bob is as fair and as honest as anyone I have ever known...something we can all admire about a person. More importantly however, is of course our concern for Bob's health and recovery so that he may regain his life which he so much loves and enjoys.

I was asked by Ruth that I be the one to communicate to all of his friends and inform you of his condition. She also asked that I be the one to call her to find out about Bob's progress and how he is doing. I am going to call Ruth again on Saturday to hopefully get some good news about Bob's improving condition. I will keep you all informed as more information becomes available to me. Ruth also asked that he not have any visitors at the hospital right now, as he is just not up for company at this time.

For those of you who wish to send Bob a get-well card, they can be sent to:

    Mr. Bob Zurick
    311 N. Fulton Street
    Ojai, CA 93023

Ruth expressed to me that she and Bob can use all the support they can get right now. For those of you who believe in prayer, please pray for Bob and his wife during this difficult time. I will let all of you know of his condition as more information is made available to me.

Bob, I hope you recover quickly.

There is reason to be optimistic about a complete recovery from this sort of thing. I had a Family member go through this and it is very, very doable.
  • Friends,

I think the best thing all of us can do right now is to keep Bob and his family in our thoughts and prayers, as some of you also mentioned. The good thing is that Bob is still with us and that is a great! As Don Q. mentioned, we all have to be optimistic for Bob's recovery, and let's not forget that the human spirit and will can overcome tremendous adversities. I'm sure we all know someone who's overcame big setbacks in life.

Bob is a great guy and I know we all hope and pray he will soon be well again.

    Tom,

Thanks for the update on Bob's condition. He helped me with my Washington set, and I had the opportunity to meet him at the FUN show the past 2 years. He's a genuinely nice guy, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

I too have spoken to Bob's wife (just today) when I tried his cell phone and was shocked to learn of Bob's illness. I have been trying to reach Bob for days and it seemed unusual to not hear back from him.

I have known Bob for about 5 years and aside from the fact that he is, in my opinion, the foremost leading authority on Washington quarters, he is an unbelievably kind and generous person. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Let's hope for a speedy and full recovery.

I've known BobbyZ for several years, split tables with him at shows (actually more of his gopher), sent him coins for consignment and sale, and like alot of you, just like to call him and talk about coins.

Bob is THE most honest and decent guy I've ever met in the coin biz. Please God, see him through.

Dunno why it took me so long but I just realized who this is, I've also dealt with him on a few ocacsions. Definitely an expert and passionate in his field, and from all accounts one of the good guys. My hopes and prayers as well for a speedy and complete recovery.

    Thanks quatrocoins.

Of course, now I remember. I, too, would like to add my wishes for a speedy recovery.
Strokes can be difficult to bounce back from, but with support and a strong spirit, it's us-

  • Bob is without a doubt one of the nicest, if not THE nicest coin dealers around. He has mentored me for the last 5 plus years in this business and I was brought to tears when I heard of his illness. He is and has always been a collector first and a dealer second. He is definetely a fighter and if anyone can pull through this it is him.

Bob is home, walking on his own, and improving rapidly. Though he is still struggling with some of the effects, his speech is returning and his spirits are high and he wants to get back at the coin business. Keep saying those prayers... it helps.
