I could have gotten this coin upgraded to a 65

but he wanted to leave it in the old holder

64 $1400

65 $4500

Why do I get the feeling that it won't upgrade, or does he just not need the money.

Missouri in 64

I actually have quite a few pieces in the very old NGC holders that I'm very confident would upgrade if resubmitted, but I really like those old holders and don't want to sell the coins, so what's the point really?

We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Seems he didn't mind trying to upgrade this one... Wonder if it came back in a bag. or maybe it was a 64PL?

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.

I posted a thread about a month ago about two Franklins in first generation holders. As I recall his claim was that they would probably upgrade. I also noticed another perculiar thing about many of his auctions and that was that there seemed to be many (and I mean many) bidders with less than a 10 feedback rating that never seemed to win any auctions, and didn't buy a whole lot of coins either.

He does sell some nice coins though.

Is he insane!!!! Breaking out and resubmitting that raw is just stupid. What if it doesn't up?? PCGS will leave it at the same grade if it doesn't up if you resubmit in the original holder. And the fact that he broke it out and resubmitted it and is now selling it raw means it didn't up, and probably won't for the new owner either.

I see nothing wrong with this seller not wanting to crack out the coin nor his claim the coin could upgrade by "another slab company".

The claim that the coin could upgrade is a meaningless statement since ANY coin in a PCGS slab might do so. And though the seller has a spotty reputation around these parts, I too would not want to bust out a coin at the request of an interested buyer.

He is selling "potential" pure and simple. Every coin dealer and auction house sells "potential".
